I learned at a young age that being“full of myself” was a bad thing. Maybe you heard that message too. But I have decided that I want to be full of myself: my ideas, my opinions, my curiosities, my needs, my emotions, my… self.
​
For marginalized people — especially Black women — seeking to understand the true roots of their burnout, or for anyone wondering what it means to live joyfully in a hostile world, FULL OF MYSELF is an exploration of hope and joy, of pleasure and grief, of community and autonomy. It’s about the complexity of being human and deciding, finally, to live.
​
I wrote this book as an invitation to begin defining yourself not as empty vessels to improve the world but as a people born free in spirit, in hope, in joy.
​
My hope is that you will find within these stories the deep truth of Black women’s humanity, a complexity, a constellation of realities. A humanity to be celebrated. A humanity to be embraced. A humanity that exists not to save the world but to save ourselves.
